How to edit the caption of a boosted post on Facebook

Published by

One thing that drives me crazy as a Social Media Manager is noticing a typo or spelling mistake mid-campaign or right after my ad for the given post has launched. Of course, it goes without saying that the copy of your caption should be double and even triple-checked before putting money behind your post. In reality however, we are all human so whether we like it or no, mistakes will happen.

Working closely with other Facebook experts, I’ve noticed that when they spot a spelling mistake, they all seem to have the same reflex: deleting the post and creating a brand-new one.

Going through the Facebook help section, I also noticed that someone from the Facebook Help Team suggested to a user who was asking how to edit a finished boosted post that the only solution would be to delete the original ad. THIS IS WRONG!

The simple answer on how to solve this problem would be to detach/unlink the ad from the post. After seeing the reaction of fellow Social Media Managers when I show them how to edit the caption of a post that is being promoted, I noticed that this is something that can truly come in handy to a lot of you Facebook Advertisers. This is why I put together the following 4 step process:

Step 1: Once you detect the typo or simply need to make a modification of a post that is being promoted or that once was, open Ads Manager and go to the ad level of the campaign for the ad that is linked to the post that you would like to edit.

Step 2: Simply switch which post this ad is serving for. (Make sure you don’t have any other ads that are linked to the post you are trying to edit)

Step 3: Refresh your Facebook page, go to the post and simply edit it as you would normally do.

Step 4: This step is very important! Make sure to go back into Ads Manager to relink the ad and the post!

And there you go! Quick and easy! The thing I truly love about this “hack” is that you get to edit your post when you desire and not lose any of the data and/or insights!

I hope this helped!
